Judge Kenya Romero of the Permanent Attention Office of the National District is scheduled to hear on 2 July 2021 the pretrial custody request submitted by the Public Prosecutor Office (PGR) against former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodr\u00edguez and six others under investigation for a major graft scheme. Rodriguez awaits the decision at the Palacio de Justicia Ciudad Nueva jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecutors have prepared a file of 294 pages with evidence of irregularities, destruction of official documents, espionage, billions in irregular business deals. Furthermore, the case file presents evidence that Rodr\u00edguez had turned the PGR into a political campaign office when he aspired to be the presidential candidate for the PLD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Listin Diario reports that Rodr\u00edguez went from being the country\u2019s top crime prosecutor to placing the resources of the PGR at the service of grand scale insider crimes. El Caribe highlights that accomplices have attempted to erase all evidence of the irregularities, wiping out entire databases at the PGR. Muckraking journalist Altagracia Salazar said on her morning radio show: The PGR had become a criminal structure at the service of the interests and ego of Jean Alain Rodr\u00edguez. She said that Rodr\u00edguez was the embodiment of perversity dressed in a suit and tie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PGR has named the case, the Medusa Operation. Also under arrest are Rafael Antonio Mercede Marte, who was in charge of the Accounting Department at the Attorney General\u2019s Office. Altagracia Guillen Calzado, who served as assistant administrative director of the Attorney General\u2019s Office. Javier Alejandro Forteza Ibarra, who held the position of director of Information Technology of the institution. Private businessman Miguel Jos\u00e9 de Moya, who has served as communications strategy advisor to Rodr\u00edguez. Jenny Marte, formerly in charge of constructions for the Jail Humanization Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
