Do\u00f1a Yolanda Reyna, the aging mother of former President Leonel Fern\u00e1ndez passed away on Wednesday, 21 July 2021 at the Centro de Medicina Avanzada Doctor Abel Gonz\u00e1lez. She had been hospitalized after suffering a fall on 7 July 2021 and undergoing surgery of the hip. She would have been 95 on 25 August of this year. Fernandez was very close with his mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fern\u00e1ndez himself tweeted the sad news. “I go through the deep regret to inform you that my beloved mother, Do\u00f1a Yolanda, has passed away in the morning hours. We sincerely thank you for the solidarity in this difficult moment and I ask God for comfort and wisdom to bear the pain of her departure. We love you, rest in peace,” wrote the three times president of the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Luis Abinader, First Lady Raquel Arbaje, former President Hip\u00f3lito Mej\u00eda have all shared their support with the Fernandez family through social media and paying respects at the Blandino Funeral Home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fern\u00e1ndez was President of the Dominican Republic from 1996-2000, 2004-2008 and 2008-2012 for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). In the 2020 presidential election he ran for the newly formed People’s Force (FP) political party after splitting from the PLD. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
