Dominican airports handled almost 1 million travelers in October; air traffic is growing in leaps and bounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both incoming and outgoing air traffic are on a steady rise, according to the Civil Aviation Board (JAC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1 to 31 October 2021, Dominican passenger flow was 949,783 passengers, a 9% growth compared to the same amount in the pre-pandemic October 2019. The stat for October is up 50% when compared to September 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data is released in the “Air Transport Statistical Report” for October 2021. Of the total 949,783 passengers mobilized, 483,037 came on inbound flights and 466,746 left on outbound flights. There were 7,681 air operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jos\u00e9 E. Marte Piantini, president of the JAC, says the growing air commercial activity shows the aviation sector is experiencing a solid recovery. He highlighted that air traffic is just as important for the tourism sector as for increases in trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All airports located in tourist destinations showed growth: Punta Cana, La Romana, Puerto Plata and Saman\u00e1. The airports of Saman\u00e1 and La Romana doubled their passenger traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is strong growth in traffic from the United States, Russia, Spain, and Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JAC reports that in October seven airlines reactivated 24 air routes. Among these is the Russian Azur Air, with the most active routes: St. Petersburg \/ La Romana and Yekaterinburg \/ La Romana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another Russian airline, Ikar Airlines, operating under the name of Pegas Fly, is debuting as a new operator in the Dominican Republic, connecting the city of Sheremetyevo with Punta Cana, Saman\u00e1 and Puerto Plata. Sheremetyevo is a city on the outskirts of Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
