Castro was First Lady of Honduras during the 2006-2009 government of former President Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales. That government ended with a coup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wholeheartedly congratulate my sister and friend Xiomara Castro, President-elect of Honduras. It is a deserved and historic triumph. Your years of struggle with your people are crowned with a great victory,\u201d Cede\u00f1o tweeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cede\u00f1o says Castro is paving the way for more women politicians. \u201cWith you we all arrive,\u201d wrote Cede\u00f1o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She expressed confidence that Castro would do an excellent job in favor of all Honduras. \u201cWe are not before a political phenomenon product of chance, but that women have understood that solid leadership is consolidated through professional and technical training and equal work,\u201d she tweeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cede\u00f1o noted that a look at the enrollment of universities in the Dominican Republic and other Latin American nations reveals that most of the students are young women who see education as the way to advance in all areas of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the coming years we will have women governing in the nations of the region, since there are solid leaderships in the political groups and social movements,\u201d Cede\u00f1o forecasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cede\u00f1o has aspired to be the candidate for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) on several occasions. She was First Lady during the governments of Leonel Fernandez (2004-2008, 2008-2012). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cede\u00f1o aspired to the presidential candidacy in 2012 and 2016 on the then ruling PLD party ticket.
