The Abinader administration is not taking a step back from the push to return to normalcy. Despite the spread of the Omicron variant locally, the government says curfew nor lockdown are not being considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Luis Abinader says there is no going back to the days of confinement. The Dominican Republic is open to foreign visitation and domestic travel is intense. Visitors can enter without vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Abinader administration says the government has abundant stocks of vaccines and medicines to deal with the flu. The good news is that Bulletin #662 shows the first drop in PCR-detected cases. The drop occurred over a long weekend. Optimistically speaking, this could mean the Omicron 5th wave could be a short one, as occurred in the case of the Delta variant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diario Libre reports that despite the spread of the virus being the most rampant in Greater Santo Domingo, capital city residents are going about their lives with much normalcy. The newspaper reported on crowds at city parks on occasion of the Epiphany long weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the media continues to report on people that have fallen ill with Covid. These include the director of the Center for Emergency Operations (COE), Juan Manuel M\u00e9ndez and former President Leonel Fern\u00e1ndez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
