Iceland\u2019s premier travel operator FiTravel (Fer\u00f0askrifstofa \u00cdslands) delivered the first group of sun-seeking tourists to Punta Cana, the prime resort’s destination in the Caribbean. The Icelandair charter flight is one of many expected to land after the tour operator is backing selling travel to Punta Cana after more than a decade, a Ministry of Tourism press release reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Icelandair Flight FI1047 arrived at the Punta Cana International Airport terminal with 182 passengers, including Th\u00f3runn Reynisd\u00f3ttir, CEO of FiTravel. Reynisd\u00f3ttir said that the agency is studying several frequencies during the fall of 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tourists arrived on board a Boeing 757-256 with a capacity of 187 seats of the Icelandair airline. The tourists were received to the rhythm of merengue by the folkloric ballet of the Ministry of Tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jarolin De la Cruz, director of the Tourism Promotion Office (OPT) Scandinavia, said that travel interest to the Dominican Republic from the northern Europe countries shows potential for favorable growth. \u201cWe hope that this initiative from a market that was absent for more than 10 years can represent support for the objective of our Ministry of Tourism to continue the recovery of Dominican tourism through the diversification of air routes to further rebound the country\u2019s economy,\u201d De la Cruz said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FiTravel is a leading group of companies in the Icelandic market, which operates under Urval Utsyn, Sumarferdir, Plus Ferdir brands. In this new effort, FiTravel is working with Avoris Corporaci\u00f3n Empresarial group, managed in the Dominican Republic by Jos\u00e9 Alarc\u00f3n, also present for the arrival of the flight from Reykjav\u00edk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
