With  a second place in the second stage, US cyclist Cole Davis (VFT) moved to lead the race with an accumulated time of eight hours, 30 minutes and 28 seconds. Davis had come in third on the first day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>G\u00f3mez covered the 179 kilometers of the return stretch from Barahona in the southwest to Mirador Sur Avenue in Santo Domingo with an average of 40.64 km per hour. Camilo Torres (Team Gespron Evolution) was third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Borstelmann of the United States (Volver Factory Team) had won the first stage of the XLIII Vuelta Ciclista Independencia Nacional on Monday, 21 February. That stage was the Santo Domingo-Barahona section (178 kilometers). Borstelmann escaped from the pack at kilometer 35 and clocked in 04:04:58 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Wednesday, 23 February, competitors will go east on the San Pedro de Macoris course.
