Gomez was First Lady when Hip\u00f3lito Mej\u00eda was president (2000-2004). She died due to a heart attack on 21 March 2022. Gomez is also the mother of capital city mayor, Carolina Mej\u00eda who is the secretary of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The official mourning days are 22, 23 and 24 March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presidential decree 132-22 instructs the Ministry of Defense to render the corresponding military honors to the prominent Dominican citizen during the funeral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same decree orders the national flag be flown at half-mast in military precincts and public buildings throughout the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former First Lady is scheduled to be buried at the Cementerio Jardin Memorial in northern Santo Domingo as of 10am on Wednesday, 23 March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read more in Spanish:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/n.com.do\/2022\/03\/22\/abinader-declara-3-dias-de-duelo-oficial-por-fallecimiento-de-dona-rosa-gomez\/\">N Digital <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>23 March 2022<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Presidency announced three days of mourning for the death of former First Lady Rosa Gomez (Do\u00f1a Rosa).
