Velas Latinoam\u00e9rica 2022, the Latin American tall ship tour\/regatta is coming to the Dominican Republic. From 31 May to 4 June, tall ships from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay will be docking at the Terminal Don Diego right beside the Colonial City attractions of the capital city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ships to stop in Santo Domingo are \u201cLibertad\u201d from Argentina, \u201cCisne Branco\u201d from Brazil, \u201c20 de Julio\u201d from Colombia, \u201cCuahtemoc\u201d from Mexico, \u201cCapit\u00e1n Miranda\u201d from Uruguay will be joining the crews of the \u201cAlmirante Juan Bautista Cambiaso,\u201d the Dominican Armada tall ship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Dominican Republic, the event coordinators for Velas Santo Domingo-Latinoam\u00e9rica 2022 are the ministries of Defense, Culture and Tourism, and the city government of the National District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regatta is held every four years and brings together tall ships of partner nations\u2019 navies to sail through the waters of South and Central America. The regatta aims to strengthen bonds of friendship among institutions and future generations of officers and crews, while sharing the culture of each participating country during their stay in ports of call. In addition to naval training and education, navy cadets and midshipmen carry out other activities, such as coastal cleanups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The long journey of more than 12,000 nautical miles began in began in Brazil on 13 February 2022. From Rio de Janeiro, the tour continued south, docking at the ports of Punta del Este and Montevideo, in Uruguay; and Mar del Plata, in Argentina. The vessels then crossed the Strait of Magellan and stopped in Punta Arenas, Chile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Pacific Ocean, the ships visited the ports of Valpara\u00edso (Chile), Callao (Peru), Guayaquil (Ecuador), and Balboa (Panama), before crossing to the Caribbean to visit Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Cura\u00e7ao. The voyage is slated to end in late June at the port of Veracruz, Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
