As journalists and people browse through the more than 12,000 pages of the accusatory file presented by state prosecutors against former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodr\u00edguez S\u00e1nchez, the details are coming out on the story of unbridled corruption and ambition. The actual hearings have yet to commence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deals prosecutors have reached with several of the beneficiaries of corruption have enabled the evidence to come forward at this early stage. Several officials at the Attorney General Office (PGR) are collaborating with the prosecution, including right-hand man Rafael Can\u00f3 Sacco, who is under house arrest in Spain, and is said to be the key witness in the case, as reported in N Digital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoy reports that at worse, Rodr\u00edguez S\u00e1nchez faces a sentence of 20 years in jail. The Diario Libre back page editorial on 12 July 2022, nevertheless, is skeptical, recalling the corruption cases of Odebrecht, Super Tucanos and Sun Land where details of major corrupt acts paraded in the newspaper pages. The accused then, including former Presidents Leonel Fernandez and Danilo Medina and dozens of key government officials, were mentioned in the accusatory phase but not sentenced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the Dominican people is tuned into the saga of corruption at the Attorney General. As the journalists read the extensive file, more details are shared. For instance, El Caribe and Listin Diario report that Global Tours & Travel issued airline tickets and paid for accommodation for upwards of RD$28 million for Rodr\u00edguez S\u00e1nchez\u2019s family members, friends and close collaborators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diario Libre focuses on the accusation that the corruption sent damaged foods to the jails for the inmates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
