The Presidency has not responded to corruption in government revealed by investigative report aired by Alicia Ortega on procurement by the Strategic and Special Projects Agency of the Presidency (Propeep). After a first program with revelations on irregularities in contracting for waste, Alicia Ortega presented irregularities in the \u201cPinta tu Barrio\u201d government welfare program by the same Propeep division of the Presidency. The report was the second investigative report Alicia Ortega aired on corruption in the Propeep office under Rafael (Neney) Cabrera. Ortega cited several irregularities in the urgent purchase of paint in time for revamping homes of the poor in time for last Christmas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The director of the Procurement Agency (DGCP), Carlos Pimentel confirmed the irregularities. He said the preliminary findings were submitted to the Anti-Fraud Unit of the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR). He spoke when interviewed for the Uno + Uno, as reported in Hoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In regards to this aspect already in the contractual execution stage, the Procurement Agency does not have the competence to investigate this. What we did was to send the report to the Anti-Fraud Unit of the Comptroller General of the Republic. We have indicated that there is a complaint and that these facts have been confirmed and that we recommend that they can go deeper to compare what was received in regards to what was contracted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TV news service, Noticias SIN says President Abinader has assured that the government will take the actions it has taken in similar cases. Noticias SIN reported that President Abinader reaffirmed there would be no impunity for those who commit irregularities in his government. The President would add, though, that the findings are nothing compared to corruption in the past administration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
