The Ministry of Public Health notified on 19 July 2022 two new confirmed cases of monkeypox (MXV) in the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are the cases of a 51-year-old female resident in Santiago de los Caballeros and a 19-year-old male resident of Monte Plata. In both cases, specific data are being withheld for ethical and privacy considerations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cases were detected through the National Epidemiological Surveillance System. PCR tests at the Dr. Defill\u00f3 National Reference Laboratory of the Ministry of Public Health confirmed the diseases in both cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The patients are in stable health and are currently in isolation under the care of specialists at the Hospital Militar Docente, Dr. Ram\u00f3n de Lara, of the Dominican Air Force in San Isidro in eastern Santo Domingo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, an epidemiological surveillance has been carried out with all the people who have had possible contact with them. The contact tracing has not revealed any other cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A first case of monkeypox was detected this month. The infected man recovered after treatment at the same San Isidro teaching hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The teaching hospital was also where the first Dominican patient of Covid-19 was taken and cared for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
