The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco (PRM-National District) is fine with casual attire at work in Congress. He responded to a call by long-time legislator Lila Alburquerque who recently complained of the new informality of her female colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pacheco excused his colleagues, saying this is a Caribbean island. During an interview for the Corripio Communications Group luncheon, the veteran legislator remarked: “We must be flexible without going into exaggerations. For example, suppose it is not a formal session of the National Assembly. In that case, I believe that we can go without a tie, without a jacket, as happens in Spain, which is a cold country, we are a tropical country,” pointed out Pacheco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lila Alburquerque understands her colleagues must comply with the dress code resolution in place and respect the formality of the National Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Modernism is taking us I do not know how far,” she complained. “This is a different place; you are not at home, you are not in a discotheque, you are not in a restaurant,” Alburquerque told her female colleagues. “You are in your workplace,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I say, you don’t have to show off so much. And if they come in tennis shoes and show off their bellies in the next legislature, next they will come in bikinis,” said Lila Alburquerque when protesting the new casualness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
