A recent protest walk led by the president of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) Senen Caba was stopped a block before the Presidential Palace. When the Police stopped the protesters, the protesting physicians attempted to cross clashing with the police agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As reported in Diario Libre, the physicians would have met with Vice President Raquel Pe\u00f1a, who heads the health cabinet, at the Presidential Palace. Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera and the director of the National Health Service (SNS) were also awaiting the physicians in the Presidential Palace. The Vice President instead went to oversee roof repairs at the Dar\u00edo Contreras public hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CMD says the public health system is in \u201ctotal collapse\u201d and demands the opening of several hospitals, including the Padre Billini and the Luis Eduardo Aybar Health City. But, the CMD is against that these hospitals be placed under boards made of volunteers, arguing this equals to their privatization. Several hospitals are already overseen by boards, including the Plaza de la Salud and Cedimat in Santo Domingo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CMD protests the health plan companies (ARS) are violating agreements signed by physicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Association of Private Clinics (Andeclip) backed the CMD protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
