The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) announced on Tuesday, 18 October 2022 new application procedures for permits for tourist transport operating licenses in the province of La Altagracia. Companies have 60 days to apply for the new certifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The executive director of Intrant, Hugo Beras; the governor of La Altagracia province, Martina Pep\u00e9n; the municipal mayor of Ver\u00f3n, Manolo Ram\u00edrez; the director of the Tourism Police, Minoru Matsunaga; the eastern regional director of the National Police, Colonel Eduardo Escalante; and the regional director of Hig\u00fcey, Colonel Jos\u00e9 David Carrasco, made the announcement after a meeting on Tuesday, 18 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recertification seeks to streamline and expedite the process of operation in tourist transport for the benefit of this sector, grouping in a one-stop window everything that has to do with the process to obtain the Transport Operating Licenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beras said the effort seeks to provide transparency and at the same time the necessary controls for the regulation and operation of transport companies in the tourism sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The governing body of transportation established the requirements for obtaining the Operating License for tourist transport vehicles in all its modalities, in addition to the costs according to the category of service, and the sanctions and infractions contemplated in Law 63-17 of Mobility, Land Transportation, Transit and Road Safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bus transportation companies must present a copy of the vehicle registration, first aid kit, seat belts, permits and authorizations issued by Intrant, have passed the Vehicle Technical Inspection, have GPS in all their units, and have a civil liability policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the case of cab companies, the applicant must submit a request to Intrant, a photocopy of the identity card, certificate of good conduct, Commercial Registry of the company, National Taxpayers Registry issued by the DGII, list of the vehicle fleet, the drivers must have their driver’s license up to date, identity card and have taken the Anti-Doping test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, all vehicles providing tourist transportation services must be properly labeled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Article 9 of Transit Law 63-17 establishes that Intrant is empowered “to establish the rules governing public transportation service, its infrastructure and related services or activities, and to issue operating licenses to public and private operators.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actions to certify tourism transporters accelerated after a recent accident in which five tourists died when the bus taking tourists on an excursion to Bayahibe overturned. State prosecutors accuse the driver of reckless driving. The case is being heard in court. The Higuey city traffic court judge Gregorio Torres Spencer has yet to order pretrial measures for the accused driver, Franklin N\u00edn P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
