The official campaign does not open until July 2023, but several political parties are getting a head start in positioning their political candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The letter of commitment signed on Thursday, 3 November is but a rehashing of what electoral laws already call for. This means rallies, caravanning, marches, concentrations of people meeting in public places for open campaigning for a candidate are banned. Likewise, billboards on political pre-candidates are all banned until the official campaign opens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), Rom\u00e1n J\u00e1quez Liranzo announced on Thursday, 3 November 2022 that the institution and the majority of the political parties signed the &#8220;agreement-compromise&#8221; with the objective of stopping untimely proselytism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The political parties and movements that signed the pact for electoral integrity were the following: Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM), Partido de la Liberaci\u00f3n Dominicana (PLD), Fuerza del Pueblo, Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD), Partido Reformista Social Cristiano (PRSC), Alianza Pa\u00eds, Partido Dominicanos por el Cambio (DxC), Partido de Unidad Nacional (PUN), Partido Bloque Institucional Social Dem\u00f3crata (BIS), Partido Humanista Dominicano (PHD), Partido C\u00edvico Renovador, Partido Revolucionario Social Dem\u00f3crata, Partido MODA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also the political parties Frente Amplio, Partido Alianza por la Democracia, Partido Pa\u00eds Posible, Partido Liberal Reformista, Partido Quisqueyano Dem\u00f3crata Cristiano, Partido Uni\u00f3n Dem\u00f3crata Cristiana, Partido de Acci\u00f3n Liberal (PAL), Fuerza Nacional Progresista, Partido Dem\u00f3crata Popular, Partido Nacional Voluntad Ciudadana, Partido Verde Dominicano, Movimiento Patria para Todos, Generaci\u00f3n de Seguidores, Partido Opci\u00f3n Democr\u00e1tica, Movimiento Comunitario Nosotros pa&#8217; Cuando and Movimiento Independiente del Municipio de Consuelo also signed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Alliance for Democracy Party (APD) did not sign the agreement as it considered that this would create a disastrous precedent for the application of the electoral laws in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JCE\u2019s J\u00e1quez Liranzo called the pact historic from the point of view of civic and democratic commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the top three political contenders are known \u2013 President Luis Abinader (PRM), Santiago Mayor Abel Martinez (PLD), Leonel Fernandez (Fuerza del Pueblo). Over the weekend, the president of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), Miguel Vargas Maldonado announced he would seek the PRD presidency.
