President Luis Abinader and a large business mission travel to Georgetown, Guyana on Thursday, 1 June for bilateral meetings and the inauguration of new offices for the Dominican Embassy iat the Pegasus Corporate Center in Georgetown, Guyana. The DR has had diplomatic ties with Guyana since 1970.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just on Wednesday, 31 May 2023 the President of Guyana Mohamed Irfaan Ali received the credentials of Dominican ambassador to Guyana Ernesto Torres Pereyra. Torres Pereyra had been Dominican ambassador to Israel since 2020. He is a graduate from the UNPHU in law and a professional diplomat with a career of more than 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Irfaan Ali is a promoter of strengthening integration with South America. He receives President Abinader right after returning from a trip to Brazil where he participated in efforts to revive the Union of South American Nations (Unasur).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On President Abinader\u2019s agenda for the two-day visit is a meeting with President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the Prime Minister, Mark Anthony Phillips. Phillips has a masters in public sector from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Abinader has also scheduled a meeting with the Secretary General of the Caribbean Community, Carla Barnett, at the Caribbean Community (Caricom) headquarters in Guyana. President Ali of Guyana has the role of lead head of state in the Caricom quasi-cabinet. Ali understands that closer relationships between the Caribbean and South American countries could prove beneficial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the inauguration of the new Dominican Embassy facilities at the Pegasus Corporate Center in Georgetown, President Abinader and the Dominican mission will participate in a dinner hosted by the President of Guyana, Mohamed Irfaan Ali at the Government House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President of Guyana has stated: \u201cWe are working on building stronger partnerships, looking at expanding agro-processing, manufacturing and value-added\u2026looking at research and development, looking at building out our scientific capability.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President and the Dominican mission are scheduled to return to the DR on Friday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
