At a time when ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) legislators seem to favor of the removal of the present members of the Chamber of Accounts, the Presidency’s Controller General Office releases findings of recent audits that look into the finances during the Abinader administration that reveal irregularities in government transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The audits released focus on the Presidency Social Cabinet (Francisco Antonio Pe\u00f1a Guaba), the Presidency Strategic Projects (Propeep under Neney Cabrera), the CAASD under Felipe (Fellito) Suberv\u00ed, the Presidential Security Corps (Cusep), the Ministry of Foreign Relations. If any audits were carried out to the most controversial and criticized departments, the Ministry of Education under former Minister Roberto Furcal, these were not released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As reported, President Luis Abinader says the Presidency requested the audits to the Controller General Office and ordered the findings be released. President Abinader said the making public of the findings is are a sign of transparency and a way of correcting errors in government. \u201cFor the first time in 94 years since the Controller Office was created, the Presidency has told them to publish the findings so the people can know in what their tax money is being invested,\u201d the President told journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The findings of the Controller General Office confirm several cases already denounced by investigative journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the audits are published for transparency sake, there is little known of actions taken to penalize, revoke or correct these cases. In some instances, the person has been removed from the position, as happened in the cases of Rafael (Neney) Cabrera at Propeep. Former Minister of Education Roberto Furcal was also removed after two years of repeated evidence of major corruption at the Ministry of Education was covered in the media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
