{"id":203819,"date":"2023-09-13T01:33:38","date_gmt":"2023-09-13T05:33:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dr1.com\/news\/?p=203819"},"modified":"2023-09-13T08:38:52","modified_gmt":"2023-09-13T12:38:52","slug":"driver-in-fatal-bus-accident-is-in-digesett-custody","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dr1.com\/news\/2023\/09\/13\/driver-in-fatal-bus-accident-is-in-digesett-custody\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver in fatal bus accident is in Digesett custody"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img src=\"https:\/\/dr1.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Accidente-Bavaro-Hoy-1024x462.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-203801\" width=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dr1.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Accidente-Bavaro-Hoy-1024x462.png 1024w, https:\/\/dr1.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Accidente-Bavaro-Hoy-300x135.png 300w, https:\/\/dr1.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Accidente-Bavaro-Hoy-768x346.png 768w, https:\/\/dr1.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Accidente-Bavaro-Hoy.png 1526w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The driver of one of the buses involved in the accident in La Otra Banda, Hig\u00fcey, is in the custody of the Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett) until he is medically discharged, El Dia reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gregorio Yan Mart\u00ednez, driver of the Aviam bus company, suffered injuries in the incident, but is stable at the Antonio Musa hospital in San Pedro de Macor\u00eds where family members took him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident occurred between six and seven in the morning on Saturday, 9 September 2023 and resulted in the death of nine Punta Cana area resorts employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The names of the deceased are: Jos\u00e9 Luis Rojas Cruz, 40 years old, who drove one of the buses; 49-year old Yudy Familia Romero; 31-year old Arqu\u00edmedes Tolentino Guill\u00e9n; 34-year old Francisca Gil P\u00e9rez; 31-year old Zoribel Carpio Cuello; 31-year old Juan Bautista Nu\u00f1ez, and 47-year old Santa Caraballo and Erickson Garc\u00eda Moreta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ruth Sonaida Marte, an employee at the Royalton resort, and an injured passenger, told the press that the driver who hit them was driving recklessly. She said the driver was passing when it crashed the bus transporting the workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The senator for La Altagracia province, Virgilio Cedano warned that the recklessness of the drivers mixed with pressure to make many trips transporting employees from resorts to and from their home towns in a short time has caused many accidents, of which several have been fatal. The Senator urged severe measures be taken against companies that hire drivers without keeping proper standards, as reported in Hoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a single week, in La Altagracia province alone, three bus accidents occured, all with fatalities and dozens of injured. Cedano believes that these accidents can be avoided. Twelve people died in two of the three accidents affecting hotel staff personnel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cedano said the penalizing of the drivers with just 20 public sector minimum wages is too little.
