Noticias SIN reports that Catalunya Religio says the Archdiocese of Barcelona could not confirm the announcement by Ban\u00ed’s resigning bishop Victor Masalles that he would collaborate with the diocese. The newspaper reporters did not interview Cardinal Joan Josep Omella on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In announcing his resignation as bishop for Ban\u00ed, Massales had said he would be collaborating with Cardinal Joan Josep Omella, archbishop of Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catalunya Religi\u00f3 reports that the Archbishopric of Barcelona has no evidence that the archbishop of that diocese and Cardinal Joan Josep Omell had invited the resigning bishop of Ban\u00ed, V\u00edctor Masalles, to collaborate in the Catalan capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This supposed invitation from Cardinal Omella, which no one attests to, is part of a resignation (of Masalles) that seems more like a dismissal,” according to the Catholic newspaper Catalunya Religi\u00f3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masalles had announced on Tuesday, 12 September 2023 via Twitter his resignation: “Following an invitation from Cardinal Omella, Archbishop of Barcelona, to collaborate in his diocese, I decided to accept the challenge, along with the challenges it represents. I feel very grateful for the welcome that Mr. Cardinal offers me.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vatican officially had announced it was accepting the resignation of Masalles as bishop for Ban\u00ed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ‘Catalunya Religi\u00f3’ website also considered that “it is hardly credible that a bishop would resign from his diocese to go help in another diocese. Nor is there any Vatican appointment to take him to Barcelona. It seems that he is neither here nor expected.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masalles was born in Barcelona to Spanish parents who migrated with the family to the Dominican Republic when Masales was a young child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
