The Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC) graduated its first 28 students in its Master’s Degree program in Data Science. The graduates were a small group among the 865 new undergraduate and graduate professionals that participated in the 67th commencement of the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An INTEC press release explains that the Master’s program in Data Science began in 2020 in virtual mode during the Covid-19 pandemic. The graduates additionally took certifications from the Fuse Machines and SAS MOOC platform, both associated with INTEC. Among the certifications, the following stand out: Fundamentals in Artificial Intelligence (Computer Science); Micromaster in Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning and Deep Learning) and Specialization in Artificial Intelligence (Computer Vision and neurolinguistic programming), also the SAS specialization in Data Mining and Data Visualization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

INTEC also said that among the graduates are those with degrees in Accounting and Financial Analytics and Marketing and Digital Business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the commencement, INTEC rector Julio S\u00e1nchez Mar\u00ed\u00f1ez spoke proudly of how the university attracts talented and hardworking young people from around the country and the world. “INTEC is established as a privileged space for quality training and research, cultivating professional skills, human values and social commitment and promoting creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

S\u00e1nchez Mar\u00ed\u00f1ez highlighted that in the 67th commencement more than 30% of the graduates come from the provinces. From the East a total of 48 were from La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, La Romana, San Pedro de Macor\u00eds and Monte Plata; 63 were from Western Cibao: Dajab\u00f3n, Montecristi, Valverde, Santiago Rodr\u00edguez, Puerto Plata, Santiago, Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, La Vega and Monse\u00f1or Nouel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, he pointed out that 32 graduates came from Eastern Cibao: San Francisco de Macor\u00eds, S\u00e1nchez Ram\u00edrez, Mar\u00eda Trinidad Sanchez and Saman\u00e1; From the Central South: San Crist\u00f3bal, Azua, Peravia and San Jos\u00e9 de Ocoa come 46 graduates, and from the Western South a total of 125 who come from San Juan, El\u00edas Pi\u00f1a, Barahona, Bahoruco, Independencia and Pedernales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond national borders, the rector highlighted the graduates of different nationalities: 11 from the United States, 9 from Venezuela, 4 from Puerto Rico, 2 from Colombia, 2 from Cuba, 2 from Haiti, 2 from Mexico, 2 from Peru, 1 from Spain, 1 from Curacao, 1 from Honduras, 1 from India and 1 from Switzerland, for a total of 39.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

S\u00e1nchez Mar\u00ed\u00f1ez stated that INTEC students and graduates stand out for their academic merits and their human and citizen values. Among those he recognized on graduation day were Ram\u00f3n Antonio Crousset, who graduated in Biomedical Engineering who works on innovative projects, such as a vital sign monitor, and Matthews Rosario Espinal, from Mechatronic Engineering, pilot of the rover vehicle that allowed the Dominican Republic and INTEC to obtain first place in the 2020 NASA world competition as a member of the Apollo 27 group and who was a volunteer with the Fire Department providing his services after the explosion in San Crist\u00f3bal last August 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
