While the government insists seasonal dengue is on the decline, the reality is that hospitals in the Dominican Republic are working at maximum capacity. People are attending to emergency rooms following government recommendations to see a doctor when there is a fever. The situation has caused problems for patients requiring medical attention for other conditions. It is now difficult to find a spot in an emergency room in a hospital. Routine procedures are being delayed as medics are occupied with possible dengue cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) and representatives of specialized medical societies met with officials of the Ministry of Public Health on 24 October 2024 to offer support to address new strategies to confront dengue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Abinader administration recently created the Dengue Cabinet to mobilize thousands of persons to create new awareness and improve the government and private sector response to dengue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president of the CMD, Dr. Sen\u00e9n Caba told Public Health deputy ministers Jos\u00e9 Antonio Matos and Eladio P\u00e9rez of Collective Health of the willingness of the medical societies and the CMD to help the health authorities to develop new protocols and guides to allocate more areas in hospitals to manage the outbreak and promote prevention among the population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
