28-year old Jose Alnardo Gonzalez delivered the gold medal for the Dominican Republic in the 100 m dash in the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games on Tuesday, 31 October 2023. He clocked in at 10:30, winning the race by a tenth of a second. Felipe Bardi of Brazil (10.31.302) and Emanuel Archibald (10.31.310) were the silver and bronze medal winners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The finish of the race was so close that a photograph of the runners crossing the finish line had to be examined to decide the placement of the medal winners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gonzalez is the first Dominican man to win gold in the 100 m in a Pan American Games. The best the DR had done in the race was a bronze by Juan Nu\u00f1ez in the 1987 Indianapolis Pan Am Games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gonzalez told Diario Libre in an interview that his goal is now to run the race in 9 seconds, \u201cto earn good money.\u201d He thanked the Ministry of Sports, the Athletics Federation, the Parni and Creso sponsorship programs and his coach Jose Rubio for their support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He had won a silver in the event in the Central American and Caribbean Games this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He will compete on Wednesday in the preliminaries of the 200 m event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volleyball Dominican women\u2019s team: Candida Arias, Lisvel Eve, Vielka Peralta, Brenda Castillo, Niverka Marte, Yokaty Perez, Yonkaira Pe\u00f1a, Bethania de la Cruz, Brayelin Martinez, Jineiry Martinez, Gaila Gonzalez, Larysmer Martinez<\/p>\n\n\n\n
