The light but persistent rains that fell in Santo Domingo on Monday and Tuesday resulted in drastic measures, even the government calling for work stoppage in the metropolitan area on Tuesday, 19 December 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several of the city\u2019s main commercial and residential areas flooded, again the consequence of lack of adequate drainage in a city where city government has authorized planting high rises where there were patios and trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Administration called for government offices to close at 2pm in anticipation of the continuing rains. He ordered staff to head home safely in provinces under red alert. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Public Administration, nevertheless, would call for employees to be back on their jobs at 8am on Wednesday, 20 December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, on Tuesday, the Ministry of Labor urged that companies be flexible with their employees that may be impacted by the flooding. Non-essential activities need to be postponed, recommended the Ministry of Labor. The Ministry of Labor also recommended that companies send their employees home by 4pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, red alerts were issued for the capital city (National District) and provinces Santo Domingo, San Cristobal and Peravia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yellow alerts were issued for Mar\u00eda Trinidad S\u00e1nchez, Puerto Plata, Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, San Jos\u00e9 de Ocoa. San Pedro de Macor\u00eds, Santiago, Azua, Duarte, Saman\u00e1, Monse\u00f1or Nouel, Monte Plata and La Vega.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green alerts were issued for S\u00e1nchez Ram\u00edrez, La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Barahona, Pedernales, Independencia and San Juan de la Maguana provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weather conditions are expected to clear starting on Wednesday, 20 December 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
