The Permanent Attention Court of the National District ordered one year of preventive detention against 30-year old Italian-Colombian Michael Saba. He was charged with murdering Venezuelan Yenny Carolina Perez Canelon on the 11th floor of the Suites by Refa apartment building on Andres Julio Aybar Street in the upscale Piantini sector of Santo Domingo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge Rigoberto Sena sent Saba to preventive detention at the Najayo Jail in San Cristobal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the state prosecutors’ request for preventive custody, the accused shot P\u00e9rez Canel\u00f3n in the heart with a 9 mm Glock pistol, and then is suspected of dismembering the young woman’s body, on Thursday, 21 December 2023. A pistol and its silencer was also found in the apartment when the Police entered. The head of the young woman and her dismembered body were found in the apartment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saba was arrested on Friday, 22 December 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Case prosecutor Luis Tavares remarked: “We are in the presence of a horrendous crime.” He described the defendant’s behavior as one of a psychopath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
