The Ministry of Environment&#8217;s first investigation did not show traces of glyphosate, a chemical that environmentalists speculate could have caused the degradation of the mangroves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judge Francisco Contreras, head of this branch of the Attorney General&#8217;s Office of the Republic, says he has asked the Environmental Commission of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) for a technical report that could shed light on what caused the drying up of the mangroves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The section of mangroves is in a coastal area ripe for real estate development for vacation homes.
