Farm and agri-industrial exports were US$301.53 million between January and August 2008, according to the Center for Export and Investment (CEI-RD). During the first seven months of the year farm exports totaled US$112.95 million, a 5.21% increase from 2007 when only US$107.36 million were exported. This increase in agricultural exports is due in part to banana exports, which totaled US$23.83 million, for a 33.33% increase from the same period in 2007. Avocado exports were also up registering US$14.65 million in exports for a 53.56% increase compared to 2007. Conventional fresh bananas saw a decrease of 50.72%, registering US$23.44 million. Agro industrial exports exported US$188.58 million during the same period for a 47.93% increase from 2007. During this period organic cacao was the number one export for a value of US$44.67 million for a US$75.52% increase.
