Grupo Puntacana, the owner and operator of the largest airport in the Dominican Republic, the Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of a new terminal building at Guyana\u2019s Cheddi Jagan International Airport ((CJIA). In a statement, CJIA said that the MoU is an important step forward for the airport\u2019s expansion plans. The new terminal will increase Guyana\u2019s main international airport\u2019s passenger capacity and enhance the overall travel experience at the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collaborative effort is to build a new terminal building at CJIA specifically designed to handle the growing influx of passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Late in 2023, the Guyana government had signed an agreement with the Manchester Airport Group to build a second terminal and implement improved management practices at the airport facility. MAG is a leading UK airport group and owns and operates three UK airports – Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTogether these partnerships represent a comprehensive strategy to transform CJIA into a world-class airport capable of meeting the growing needs of Guyana\u2019s air travel industry,\u201d the statement indicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport had signed an MoU with the Houston Airport System, resulting in both airports working together to attract United Airlines to fly the Houston\/Georgetown route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
