The Central Electoral Board (JCE) issued the final tally per political party regarding the 18 February 2024 municipal election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding city mayors, the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party received 1,372,095 votes for mayors and 378,991 for the municipal directors for 47.31% of the total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) received 605,058 for mayors and 223,434 for. Municipal directors, for 22.38%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The People\u2019s Force (FP) received 397,200 for mayors and 129,149 for municipal directors, for 14.2%%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) received 79,491 for mayor and 26,665 for municipal director for 2.87% of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These four political parties enjoyed 80% of the billions in public funding for the elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two other political parties received more than 1% of the vote. These were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC) with 53,256 votes for mayor and 19,619 for municipal directors, with 1.97%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the Possible Country Party (Partido Pa\u00eds Posible) with 36,178 votes for mayor and 3,538 for municipal directors, for 1.07% of the vote in the 2024 municipal election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No other party was able to garner 1% of the vote, despite generous funding from tax payer money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports in Diario Libre and Hoy conclude the political parties did not generate enthusiasm among voters. Indeed, Diario Libre points out that in the capital city, the incumbent Mayor Carolina Mejia would win her reelection bid with less votes than she received in 2020, a pandemic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Santiago, the country\u2019s second largest city, the abstention was 68%, a record high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
