Despite pleas by supporters for the choice of a single presidential candidate backed by the followers of former President Danilo Medina (Dominican Liberation Party) and those of former President Leonel Fernandez (People\u2019s Force), nothing was accomplished and the two kingpins of the former ruling party will be campaigning solo for the presidential seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As occurred in the case of the recently finalized municipal election, the larger contending political parties in the Dominican Republic announced two electoral blocks for the presidential and congressional election scheduled for 19 May 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The RD-Avanza alliance is led by the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and presents President Luis Abinader as the presidential candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PRM announces reaching an alliance with 22 minority parties for presidential and congressional candidacies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rescate-RD Alliance is led by the former ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and the dissident PLD party, the People\u2019s Force of former President Leonel Fernandez. Rescate-RD announces that the two majority opposition parties will participate in the presidential election each backing their own presidential and vice presidential candidates, but they will jointly back a choice of candidates in different jurisdictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PLD presidential candidate Abel Martinez said that the party will join the FP and the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) to back 25 of the 32 senators. Of these, 11 are proposed by the PLD and 10 by the FP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) will present the presidential, senator and deputy candidates on Thursday, 7 March 2024 for the 19 May 2024 elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minority parties also registered their presidential candidates. These are: Frente Amplio (FA), Mar\u00eda Teresa Cabrera; Homeland for All (PPT), Fulgencio Severino; Generation of Servers (GENS), Carlos Pe\u00f1a; Democratic Option (OD), Virginia Antares and Christian Socialist (PSC), Roque Espaillat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
