This activity contributed 32.1% of the economic activity in the Dominican Republic, according to recently released statistics from the National Statistics Office (ONE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Men hold 60% of the jobs in the sector. The bad news is that the commercial sector is in the 14th position when it comes to salaries, with an average monthly salary of RD$18,700.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For close to a decade, the ONE notes that stores are a third of all the companies in the country. Last year, there were 113,000 formal companies in the country, a 7% increase from the previous year.
