The First Collegiate Court of the National District lifted the house arrest on the former deputy security chief of former President Danilo Medina, Air Force General Julio Camilo de los Santos Viola and Police Colonel Rafael N\u00fa\u00f1ez de Aza, two of the main defendants in the Operation Coral and Coral 5G corruption cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

House arrest was also lifted for police corporal Tanner Antonio Flete Guzm\u00e1n, son of the evangelical pastor Rossy Guzm\u00e1n. Flete Guzman is accused of being a frontman for Major General Ad\u00e1n C\u00e1ceres Silvestre, former head of the Presidential Security Corps (Cusep), who is also named in the proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00fa\u00f1ez de Aza, former financial director of Cusep, was allowed to post bail for RD$100 million. He is impeded to leave the country and must wear an electronic locator. De los Santos Viola was also allowed to post bail for RD$1 million pesos, is banned for traveling without authorization from the court and must wear the shackle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Flete was authorized to post a RD$100,000 bond and is banned from leaving the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three are part of the group of military and police involved in the case of alleged fraud of more than 4.5 billion from the state through Cusep and the Special Tourist Security Corps (Cestur).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Others accused in the case are the former head of Cestur, General Juan Carlos Torres Robiou; Army Major Ra\u00fal Alejandro Gir\u00f3n, Navy Sergeant Alejandro Jos\u00e9 Montero Cruz, General Boanerges Reyes Batista (ARD), Navy Captain Franklin Mata Flores, and Jos\u00e9 Manuel Rosario Pir\u00f3n and some of their relatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Lantigua, Alfredo Pichardo, Erasmo Roger P\u00e9rez, Jehohanan Luc\u00eda Rodr\u00edguez, Yehudy Blandesmil Guzm\u00e1n and Esmeralda Ortega Polanco are also involved in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They all face a substantive trial currently being heard by the First Collegiate Court of the National District, which has a hearing next Thursday, 18 April 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecutor Jos\u00e9 Alberto Ort\u00edz, protested the relaxing of preventive trial measures and said that the most prudent thing would have been to maintain the coercive measure in force, so as not to contaminate the substantive trial that begins on Thursday, 18 April 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
