But of these six seats, only three are of an opposition party, the others are of minority parties that backed the Luis Abinader presidential candidacy. The absolute majority gives the ruling party the number of legislators to modify the 2015 Constitution or pass any other legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ruling PRM and allies only lost to Fuerza del Pueblo candidates in La Romana (Eduard Espiritusanto), San Juan de la Maguana (Felix Bautista) and the National District (Omar Fernandez).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PRM-allied politicians who won were in the provinces of La Altagracia \u2013 with Rafael Bar\u00f3n Duluc of the Partido Liberal Reformista, Bahoruco with Guillermito Lama of the Partido Alianza por la Democracia (APD), and Antonio Marte, who was reelected to the position this time running for the Partido Primero la Gente (PPG).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only four of the 32 elected senators are women &#8212; L\u00eda Ynocencia Diaz Santana in Azua, Aracelis Villanueva in San Pedro de Macoris, Ginette Bournigal (Puerto Plata), and Mar\u00eda Mercedes Ort\u00edz (Hermanas Mirabal).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of 23 senators who sought to be reelected, only 14 won their bids, most to be defeated by ruling PRM candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The senators for 2024-2028 are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>National District<br>Fuerza del Pueblo Deputy Omar Fernandez moves to the Senate after defeating the ruling party PRM candidate Guillermo Moreno, an ally from the Alianza Pais minority party. He received 56.2% of the vote to 39.77% of Moreno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Altagracia (Higuey, Veron, Punta Cana)<br>Rafael Bar\u00f3n Duluc Rijo (Cholit\u00edn) of the Partido Liberal Reformista will be a newcomer in Congress. He was previously major of Higuey, the largest city in the province of La Altagracia where Punta Cana is located. He had the backing of the ruling PRM. He won with 51.58% to his contender Juan Julio Campos of the PLD, who received 46.7% of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Azua<br>L\u00eda Ynocencia Diaz Santana, running for the PRM, was reelected senator for the province of Azua. She won with 66.79% competing against former Azua senator Rafael Calderon (2016-2020) who received 32.94% of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bahoruco<br>Guillermito Lama, of the Partido Alianza por la Democracia (APD), an ally of the ruling PRM, received 68.05% of the vote to defeat Marino Feliz of Fuerza del Pueblo who received 31.95%. He replaces Melania Salvador Jimenez, of the PRM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barahona<br>Moises Ayala defeated incumbent senator for Barahona, Jose del Castillo, who sought to be reelected for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). Ayala is the present deputy for Barahona for the ruling party in the Chamber of Deputies. He received 61.06% of the vote to 38.71%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dajabon<br>Newcomer Ney Rodr\u00edguez, running for the ruling PRM, defeated incumbent senator David Sosa of the Fuerza del Pueblo who had sought to be reelected. Rodriguez received 56.61% of the vote to 36.08% of Sonia Mateo of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and 7.25% of David Sosa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duarte (San Francisco de Macor\u00eds)<br>Franklin Romero of the ruling PRM was reelected to the position with 72.92% of the vote defeating PLD\u2019s Luis Yanguela Canaan\u2019s 26.40%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El Seibo<br>Senator for the ruling PRM, Santiago Zorrilla received 68.90% to be reelected senator for El Seibo. His closest contender, former senator Ulises de Beras, running for the Rescate RD, received 30.27%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elias Pi\u00f1a<br>Johnson Encarnaci\u00f3n, a medical surgeon and newcomer running for the ruling PRM, won the Elias Pi\u00f1a seat with 63.24% to 36.47% of Adriano Sanchez Roa who ran for the Rescate RD coalition of the FP, PLD and PRD. Sanchez Roa had been senator for the periods 2006-2010, 2010-2016 and 2016-2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Espaillat<br>Incumbent senator Carlos G\u00f3mez of the PRM received 68.86% to be reelected in the position. He defeated Xiomara Valerio of the FP, who received 30.43% of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hato Mayor<br>Incumbent senator Crist\u00f3bal Castillo, of the PRM, was reelected with 51.54% of the vote, versus Saury Mota of the PRD, who received 48.46% of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hermanas Mirabal<br>Mercedes Ortiz (Mecho), of the PRM, defeated incumbent senator Bauta Rojas who sought to be reelected senator for Hermanas Mirabal. Ortiz won with 69.62% to 30.01%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Independencia<br>Dagoberto Rodr\u00edguez, of the PRM, is reelected with 56.63%, to H\u00e9ctor Peguero M\u00e9ndez, of the Partido Popular Cristiano (PPC), who received 22.45%, and Valent\u00edn Medrano, of the PLD, who received 20.91% of the vote for the senate position in Independencia province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Romana<br>Eduard Espiritusanto of the FP defeated incumbent senator of the PRD Ivan Silva with 52.17% of the vote to Silva\u2019s 4.34%. Frank Martinez running for the PRSC received 42.15% of the vote. Silva had won the election in 2020 running on the PRM ticket. The PRM did not have a candidate running in the La Romana election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Vega<br>Ramon Rogelio Genao of the PRM-ally Partido Reformista Social Cristiano won his bid for reelection defeating FP candidate Euclides Sanchez 59.96% to 38.52%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maria Trinidad Sanchez<br>PRM candidate Alexis Victoria Yeb won his bid for reelection with 75.41% to the 23.69% of Jose Luis Cosme of the FP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monse\u00f1or Nouel (Bonao)<br>Merengue band singer and orchestra director, H\u00e9ctor Acosta, el Torito, won his bid for reelection in Monse\u00f1or Nouel (Bonao) 57.97% to Maicol Genao of the FP who received 27.86% of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Montecristi<br>Senate newcomer, Bernardo Alem\u00e1n (M\u00edster Alem\u00e1n), for the ruling PRM, was voted senator to Montecristi with 70.81% of the votes. He defeated Mayobanex Escoto with 29.05% of the votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monte Plata<br>PRM deputy Pedro Tineo won the senate seat in Monte Plata with 42.97% to 33.34% of Rafael Gonzalez and 20.70% of Juan Hubieres, running for the FP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pedernales<br>The PRM won the Pedernales senate seat with Augusto Velazquez who received 61% of the vote. He defeated FP senator Dionis Sanchez who sought to be reelected lost with 38.59% of the vote. Dionis Sanchez had a career of 18 years in the position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peravia (Ban\u00ed)<br>Julito Fulcar of the PRM moved up to be a senator for Peravia (Ban\u00ed) after years as deputy with the PRM in the Chamber of Deputies. He won the senate seat with 52.67% of the vote to Raul Lara of the PRD with 38.29%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Puerto Plata<br>Incumbent senator Ginette Bournigal of the PRM was reelected to the Puerto Plata Senate with 54.82% to 44.59% of Walter Musa of the PLD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samana (Samana, Las Terrenas, Las Galeras)<br>Pedro Catrain repeats as senator for Samana with a margin of 50.95% to Miguel Angel Jazmin of the PLD who received the vote of 42.94%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Cristobal<br>Gustavo Lara Salazar, who ran for the ruling PRM, received 57.88% of the vote to defeat Demetrio Lluveres of the PLD, who received 24.56% of the vote and Elvis Rosario 17.26%. Lara Salazar is a deputy in the Chamber of Deputies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Juan de la Maguana<br>Fuerza del Pueblo senator F\u00e9lix Bautista lead with 53.17% over Nidio Encarnaci\u00f3n, of the Partido Revolucionario Social Dem\u00f3crata (PRSD), an ally of the PRM, received 45.35% of the vote. Bautista was first elected senator in San Juan de la Maguana in 2010 and has continued in the position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Pedro de Macoris<br>Aracelis Villanueva running for the PRM won the senate seat for San Pedro de Macoris with 62.49% of the vote, defeating incumbent senator Franklin Pe\u00f1a of the FP who received 36.98% of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanchez Ramirez (Cotu\u00ed)<br>The president of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, running for the PRM, was reelected with 72.57% of the vote in S\u00e1nchez Ram\u00edrez to his nearest contender Wilson Arides Garcia of the FP who received 26.68% of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Jose de Ocoa<br>Aneudy Ortiz, of the PRM, was voted the new senator for San Jose de Ocoa receiving 68.95% of the vote. He defeated Yari Cabrera of the PRD who received 15.93% and Mario Cabrera of the FP 9.13% of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Santiago<br>Former Minister of Public Health Daniel Rivera won his bid to be the senator for Santiago with 63.09% of the vote to Dem\u00f3stenes Mart\u00ednez, of the FP, who received 22.36%, and Marino Collante of the PLD, who received 12.933% of the votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Santiago Rodriguez<br>Antonio Marte, of the Partido Primero la Gente (PPG), a PRM party ally, was reelected senator for Santiago Rodr\u00edguez. Marte with 56.83%, of the votes, defeated Antonio Cruz, who received 42.91%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Santo Domingo<br>Antonio Taveras received 54.19% of the votes to secure his reelection as senator for the province of Santo Domingo.
