The Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (Pro Dominicana) announced Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during the first quarter of 2024 set a new record. US$1.28 billion was registered at the Central Bank, for an interannual increase of 2.4%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In sectoral terms, this behavior responds to the increase registered in the real estate, communications and tourism sectors, according to the Central Bank statistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biviana Riveiro Disla, executive director of ProDominicana, says what is most outstanding is that the increase happened during an electoral year, a time when people have traditionally adopted a wait and see attitude. She also said this is the first time that FDI exceeds US$1 billion during the first quarter of the year. She attributed the increase to the fulfillment of the government plans, a clear foreign policy and institutional promotional efforts aimed at enhancing trade with different regional blocks and countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Riveiro highlighted that the US$1,280.9 million is a growth of 32.4% compared to the first quarter of the pre-pandemic year 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Central Bank estimates that FDI in the Dominican Republic will close at around US$4.5 billion by the end of 2024, which favors the relative stability of the exchange rate, enables an adequate level of international reserves and promotes price stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
