Former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodriguez Sanchez is accused of leading a corruption network that involves 41 physical persons and 22 companies that acted in coalition of government officers, prevarication, association of evildoers against the government. He is also accused of bribes and crimes of high technology. The criminal network fraud to the state is quantified at more than RD$6 billion. The case is known as the Medusa Operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodriguez Sanchez is now under house arrest as he awaits the advances to the trial. The judge hearing the case, Amauri Martinez of the Third Instruction Court of the National District has said he will announce his decision on 28 June 2024 on whether the case goes to the trial phase or is discarded. Speaking in his own defense, Rodr\u00edguez Sanchez urged the judge to discard the accusations on grounds that these lack concrete proof against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecutors are basing their case on statements and leads provided by Rodriguez Sanchez\u2019s closest aides in the four years he was prosecutor and in the previous four years when he directed the Center for Export and Investment (Cei-RD). Rodriguez Caminero\u2019s right hand, and childhood friend, Rafael Steffano Can\u00f3 Sacco, who served as chief of the cabinet at the Attorney General Office, left for Spain at the time of the change of government in 2020, taking with him the digital records of the Attorney General Office that have served to incriminate Rodriguez Sanchez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As reported in Diario Libre, the former attorney general urged the court to correct the “abuses” which, he assures, have been committed against him with a “persecution” motivated by political and political reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The judge can remedy part of these abuses with a there is no case decision or at least by eliminating all the charges of criminal prosecution and unlawful prosecution,” said Rodriguez Sanchez, who is the principal accused in the Medusa case during the hearing with judge Amauri Mart\u00ednez on 4 June 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodriguez Sanchez says his collaborators were extorted to act against him, even his best friends of more than 40 years. Dozens of former collaborators have reached deals with the prosecutors, accepting their participation in the network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As reported in Diario Libre, Rodriguez Sanchez stated that the prosecution does not have proof of his association with the crimes, a check or piece of paper, a WhatsApp, a telephone call that incriminates him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodriguez Sanchez protested that the actions against him by the state prosecutors resulted in the revoking of his visa and that of his wife and two children to visit the United States. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jean Alain Rodriguez Sanchez insists he was already very wealthy when he was first appointed by former President Danilo Medina to a position in government. Previously, he was employed as a lawyer at a medium-sized law firm. In his first wealth statement when taking on the position of director of the CEI-RD he declared assets for RD$220 million. At the time, the declaration was controversial given his tax income statements at the time, as disclosed online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
