Politician Rafael Paz Familia says Reformed Companies Heritage Fund (Fonper) board members signed whatever they were presented with. The board members received high wages for their \u201cwork\u201d during the Medina administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paz Familia was a named member to the Fonper board. On Wednesday, 26 June 2024, he appeared as a witness for the Public Ministry (prosecution arm of the Attorney General Office) before the Second Collegiate Court of the National District. He asserted that the board had no influence over the institution’s administrative decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this regard, Mirna Ortiz, Litigation Coordinator of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), pointed out that Rafael Paz’s statements contradict the defense’s claim by their clients Fonper director Fernando Rosa and administrative vice president Magalys Medina S\u00e1nchez that the board was responsible for administrative decisions. Magalys Medina Sanchez is sister of former President Danilo Medina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Fonper board of directors was not involved in purchases, awards, or choosing suppliers, as those decisions fell under administrative responsibility,” Paz Familia responded to questions from the Public Ministry, which issued a statement available to the press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court hearing is part of a series of cases ongoing in the judiciary regarding administrative corruption during the past Danilo Medina administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rafael Paz Familia is a former executive vice president of the Association of Industries and the National Competitiveness Council who sought to a candidate for mayor for the Fuerza del Pueblo in the National District or be elected to the 2024-28 National Congress, failing at both attempts in the preliminary phases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
