Police Colonel Ysabelita de los Santos, the former head of El Coco dog track facility where seized vehicles were stored, was sentenced to six months of suspended prison, along with two other defendants, in the case involving her alleged abuse of power against the National Ombudsman and a team of El Caribe journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ruling came from the Ninth Criminal Court, where Colonel Ysabelita de los Santos P\u00e9rez, Geraldina de los Santos Pe\u00f1a, and Marisol Vargas were found guilty of rebellion and assault. Despite the prosecution’s request for a two-year prison term, the judge opted for a six-month suspended sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, defendants Ronny Recio Rosario and Carlos Oliver Borque Paulino were acquitted on grounds thatr there was a lack of evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally, the five defendants were not brought to trial following the 2022 incident. However, a subsequent appeal by the Public Prosecutor’s Office led to the court ordering the trial to proceed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the incident, the government moved to relocate the colonel in another position and at the same time ordered the expediting of the construction of a new facility for retained vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
