President Luis Abinader attended the graduation ceremonies of a social program carried out by his Social Policy Cabinet and called \u201cOpportunity 14-24.\u201d This is an educational program that is aimed at young people that are at risk due to poverty or other factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are over 100 of these training facilities around the country that prepare these young people for entry into the labor market by providing real life skills that are desirable in the marketplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this ceremony, over 4,500 students from all of the different parts of the country graduated. They received training in 59 trade career paths, such as PC and cellphone repairs, woodworking, welding, hairdressing and barbershop operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tony Pe\u00f1a Guaba, the head of the Social Policy Cabinet, noted that these young people would otherwise have been part of the \u201cninis,\u201d or young people who neither study nor work, and are some of the most vulnerable members of the nation\u2019s population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of the Opportunity 14-24, according to Pe\u00f1a, over 200 of this promotion have already started their own micro or small business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal for 2024 is to reach 10,000 young people. Back in February, the program graduated over 2200 students, and overall, some 11,000 have finished the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
