President Luis Abinader has pledged to implement territorial planning programs across several municipalities over the next four years, Diario Libre reports on its coverage of a recent city government workshop on the matter. The land planning initiative is part of the broader mandate established by the Territorial Planning, Land Use, and Human Settlements Law 368-22, which aims to organize land use throughout the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The implementation focus will start with municipalities that have significant tourism development and substantial populations. Notable areas targeted for these plans include Moca in the Espaillat province and Ver\u00f3n in La Altagracia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe aim to address at least 50% of the municipalities facing major challenges, such as Ver\u00f3n and Moca, particularly regarding agricultural land issues. We want to support municipalities with significant growth and tourism potential,\u201d Abinader stated, as reported in Diario Libre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President emphasized a gradual approach due to the high costs associated with the planning program implementation efforts. \u201cWe will explore how to secure the necessary resources because developing a territorial planning strategy requires a substantial budget, which varies depending on the region,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal is to define the primary function of each geographic area, whether it be agricultural, industrial, tourism, or residential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abinader underscored the significance of Land Planning Law 368-22, describing it as “one of the three most important laws passed in the past four years, if not the most important.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As reported in N Digital, Waldys Taveras, a leading municipal expert, says there continues to be anarchy in the dividing up of the country in municipalities. Meanwhile, outgoing lawmaker Jose Horacio Rodriguez protested that the Chamber of Deputies has voted in favor of creating the municipal district of La Caleta in Santo Domingo province. He called this wasteful spending and merely the creating of jobs for politicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
