On Tuesday, 13 August 2024, Spain’s Foreign Minister Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares announced that Spain will now handle diplomatic matters for Dominican nationals residing in Venezuela. The remark was made to the press after the minister spoke at the Spanish senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the media at the Senate, Albares explained that Spain will oversee the interests of Dominican citizens in Venezuela at the request of the Dominican government. This move comes after the Venezuelan government, led by Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, expelled all Dominican diplomats following the presidential elections in late July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Albares, with prior approval from the Venezuelan government, Spain has been managing the affairs of Dominican nationals since Monday, 12 August 2024. \u201cSpain will always be ready to support all the countries and peoples of Latin America,\u201d Albares concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the issue of Venezuela to the senators, Albares said that Spain has maintained its commitment with democracy in its position regarding the elections in Spain. \u201cWe were one of the first countries in the world to demand the presentation of the voter tallies because we want the vote of the Venezuelans to be respected,\u201d he said. There are around 150,000 Spaniards living in Venezuela. He said 100,000 Venezuelans have been granted migration benefits by the present government since 2018. \u201cWe seek to be useful in helping find solutions,\u201d said Albares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
