The Ministry of Culture (MINC) announced on Tuesday, 13 August 2024 the winners of its 2024 Annual Literature Awards for works published between 2022 and 2023. The awards, which recognize excellence in six literary categories, come with a RD$300,000 prize and a certificate of honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony took place at the Ministry’s headquarters and was presided over by the Vice Minister of Cultural Identity and Citizenship, Pastor De Moya. He was joined by the Director General of Books and Reading, \u00c1ngela Hern\u00e1ndez, and the Director of Literary Management, Fari Rosario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his speech, Rosario emphasized that “with this announcement of the Annual Literature Awards, we further consolidate and strengthen the literary tradition of our country.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winners <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Salom\u00e9 Ure\u00f1a de Henr\u00edquez Annual Poetry Award was granted to “Luz Breve” by poet Sally Rodr\u00edguez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a Annual Essay Award was given to “Fiat Lux,” authored by Jochy Herrera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Manuel de Jes\u00fas Galv\u00e1n Annual Novel Award was won by “Testosterona Split,” written by Efra\u00edn Castillo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n L\u00f3pez Annual Short Story Award was bestowed upon “Por esas calles de Dios (Cuentos de mi Dady)” by Frank Disla Ortiz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Crist\u00f3bal de Llerena Annual Theater Award was granted to “Rabia y fervor” by C\u00e9sar S\u00e1nchez Beras, and the Aurora Tav\u00e1rez Belliard Annual Children’s and Young Adult Literature Award went to “Miel de viejas” by Virginia Read Escobal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These awards were established by Decree No. 3-17, dated 6 January 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the juries<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The poetry category jury consisted of Juan Carlos Mieses, Julio Adames, and Chiqui Vicioso. The short story jury included Emelda Ramos, Rafael Castillo, and Manuel Llibre. The novel jury was composed of Pedro Antonio Valdez, M\u00e1ximo Vega, and Alejandro Aguilar. The essay jury was made up of Fernando Cabrera, Carlos Enrique Cabrera, and Ofelia Berrido. For children’s literature, the jury members were Dulce Elvira de los Santos, Eleanor Grimaldi, and Ram\u00f3n Gil. Finally, the theater category jury comprised Iv\u00e1n Garc\u00eda Guerra, Claudio Rivera, and Elizabeth Ovalles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
