Former president of the Senate and popular Z101 radio host Ramon Alburquerque had jumped the gun announcing two days ago that his fellow combative politician Guido Gomez Mazara had been appointed to the top position in Indotel, the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications. Then on Wednesday, 21 August 2024, the Decree 455-24 went public, making official the appointment as president of the board of Indotel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the premature announcement, the very vocal Gomez Mazara had appeared as guest at leading news programs saying his appointment was going through the normal channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gomez Mazara\u2019s last job in government was as legal advisor for then President Hip\u00f3lito Mej\u00eda (2000-2004) and the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD). Gomez Mazara resigned to campaign for Mej\u00eda and at the time was replaced by Ricardo Ayanes P\u00e9rez N\u00fa\u00f1ez who is today legal advisor to the city of National District, for Carolina Mejia, daughter of former President Mejia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Luis Abinader and Hip\u00f3lito Mej\u00eda founded the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and left the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) to party president Miguel Vargas Maldonado, Gomez Mazara stayed put. It was not until recently that he made the switch to the today ruling party. For years, Gomez Mazara had disputed the presidential candidacy of the PRD to Vargas Maldonado and publicly acted as opposition to the PRM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lawyer by career, Guido Orlando G\u00f3mez Mazara, is best known as a politician and media personality. He is a graduate from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) with a master’s degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the New School for Social Research in New York City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gomez Mazara has served as executive director of Listin USA and worked as a news reporter for Telemundo Network. His academic contributions include teaching Law at Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Santo Domingo (UASD), Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), and Universidad Cat\u00f3lica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the announcement of his appointment was official, Gomez Mazara announced he would work to reduce the digital gap. Speaking on the media before his appointment, he had urged his followers to forget about his presidential aspirations and to concentrate on doing a good government during the next two years. President Luis Abinader has said he will not seek a third term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
