Chinese low cost goods stores have developed in general a reputation for violating tax, city and labor laws. They have again made headlines, this time for selling public school uniforms, of those that should be distributed free to students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government supplier of the goods, the National Institute of Student Welfare (Inabie) defended itself, referring to the importer. The Chinese owner of the Chinese store, 20 y 10, in San Antonio de Guerra, said he purchased them from the importer, Inacer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Francisco Valdez, the owner of the contract for the pants, Inacer, said it was a mistake and posted an even more confusing explanation on its social media. He explained the incident was the result of the misunderstanding by an employee, who failed to notice that 36 pairs of pants had not passed the quality control of the Inabie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the letter signed by Valdez, the 36 items were meant to be discarded but were “accidentally mixed with another order.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another reported incident of selling Inabie-contracted uniforms (shoes) destined for free distribution in public schools had been reported in a Villa Mella Chinese store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local Dominican businesses have consistently criticized the Dominican Customs Agency has allowed the bulk import of goods with tax advantages to the Chinese businesspeople that compete offering the cheap goods at the lowest prices to be found anywhere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
