Twelve athletes make up the Dominican team at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games that open on Wednesday, 28 August 2024 in Paris, France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darlenys de la Cruz (para-athletics) and Jes\u00fas Rodr\u00edguez (para-powerlifting) are the team flag bearers in the opening ceremony scheduled for 2pm Dominican time (six hours less difference).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opening ceremony, as occurred with the Paris Olympics, is taking place outside of a traditional stadium, on the Place de la Concorde and the Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es in the heart of Paris, following in the footsteps of the Olympic Games which were held along the Seine River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As reported in Diario Libre, De la Cruz, a finalist at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and world champion in the 100 meters (T-12 category), expressed her excitement about carrying the Dominican flag. “I’m thrilled to be my country’s flag bearer; it’s an honor to represent them,” said De la Cruz, who is visually impaired. She will march alongside her guide, Fary Mej\u00eda, who said, “It’s a great honor to be considered and to accompany her, holding that national flag will be a great honor for me.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodr\u00edguez, in addition to expressing his pride in carrying the flag, also stated, “I hope to give a lot of enthusiasm to our delegation as an athlete and do a good job.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 184 delegations and around 6,000 athletes are competing in the Paris games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Sports in the Dominican Republic is awarding RD$15 million for a gold medal, RD$10 million for silver and RD$8 million for bronze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
