The Russian government has given the green light to establish an embassy in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree to this effect, which was published the official online registry of legal information, the TASS news agency reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until now, the ambassador in Venezuela was concurrent to the Dominican Republic. The Embassy of Venezuela had served as base for Russian authorities in its diplomatic relations with the Dominican Republic. The Embassy of Venezuela in Santo Domingo and the Dominican Embassy in Venezuela are no longer operating after differences over who won the 28 July 2024 presidential election in Venezuela. The Russian Foreign Ministry will now determine the embassy’s staffing levels and operational schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The governments of the Dominican Republic and Venezuela now have tense relations, with most affairs now handled by the Embassy of Spain in both countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dominican Republic’s ambassador to Russia is Alejandro Arias. The Dominican Republic has had an embassy in Russia since 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
