Euri And\u00fajar, president of the National Association of Herrera Enterprises and Industries (ANEIH), has called on the government to foster tax reform that simplifies and makes it easy for businesses of all sizes to pay taxes. He praised the proposal for the elimination of the advance tax payments for micro businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview with Entre Dos, Andujar said small and medium-sized businesses are having a hard time with electronic billing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, he proposed that the tax on food products be gradual, and not the 18% announced in the proposal. He said, nevertheless, that this tax will not impact the poor who he says usually source their food from small informal vendors who do not pay the tax anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, And\u00fajar said the proposed 18% tax on basic food items and other essential services would disproportionately affect the middle class. He insisted that these tax increases could have been implemented more gradually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The business leader expressed concern about the impact of the reform on the industrial sector, particularly the elimination of certain incentives for domestic industries and the increase in electricity rates. He warned that these changes could put Dominican companies at a disadvantage compared to international competitors, especially those from Central America and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
