Ivonne Ferreras, a journalist with the digital news media Panorama, was awarded the Grand Prize of the Epifanio Lantigua National Tourism Journalism Award by the Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur). Ferreras’ winning entry was a comprehensive report titled “Sargassum: An Environmental Plague that Threatens Coastal Areas and Impacts Tourism”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony, held at the Santo Domingo Sheraton Hotel and presided over by Adompretur President Yenny Polanco Lovera, also recognized other outstanding journalists in various categories. Luisa Blanco of Hoy newspaper won in the Print Media category for her series on the “Splendor and Appeal of the Colonial City.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other categories, Alexander Mart\u00ednez of the “Rutas y Rincones” program took home the prize for Television or YouTube Reporting, while Eliezer Tapia of El Nacional won in the Photography category. Jessica Bonifacio of El Caribe was awarded the Gastronomy prize, and Jessica Leonor and Daniela Pujols of Diario Libre won in the Arts and Culture category. In the Northern Region category, M\u00e1ximo Reynoso V\u00e1squez of the “Al M\u00e1ximo TV” program was the winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ferreras, in addition to winning the Grand Prize, also received an award in the Print Media category for her piece on the urgent need for regulation and standardization of Airbnb accommodations. Massiel De Jes\u00fas and Ram\u00f3n Fari won in the Digital Press category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00e1zaro Medina Familia of El Nacional received a special mention for his series on “Rivers and Beaches,” and Katheryn Luna of acento.com.do was also recognized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Grand Prize winner received RD$85,000 and two airline tickets from Arajet. Other winners received RD$50,000, a certificate, and a bronze trophy created by sculptor Rafael Bueno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

61 journalists competed for the awards. The jury included Tony P\u00e9rez, Luis Felipe Aquino, Gustavo Olivo Pe\u00f1a, Esteban Rosario, Rosanna Figueroa, Aurelio Henr\u00edquez, Bol\u00edvar Troncoso, Oscar Pe\u00f1a, Jos\u00e9 Antonio Aybar, Jos\u00e9 M\u00e1rmol, and Edgar Lantigua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
