Princess Leonor of Spain, the heir to the Spanish throne, is set to visit the Dominican Republic as part of her naval training next year. The future queen will be embarking on a six-month voyage aboard the Spanish Navy’s training ship, the Juan Sebasti\u00e1n de Elcano, starting in January 2025. Her father, today King Felipe VI of Spain, also visited the Dominican on the same training ship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The princess, who is currently undergoing training as a naval cadet, will be one of 76 cadets on board the ship as it sails to various destinations in the Americas. The voyage is scheduled to begin on 11 January 2025, from C\u00e1diz, Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Juan Sebasti\u00e1n de Elcano is expected to arrive in Santo Domingo between 19 and 24 May 2025. This leg of the journey will follow visits to Cartagena de Indias and Santa Marta in Colombia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ship’s itinerary includes stops in several other countries, including Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Panama, and the United States. The voyage is expected to cover over 17,000 nautical miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the voyage, Princess Leonor and her fellow cadets will participate in various naval training exercises and academic studies. The journey also serves as a diplomatic mission, fostering relationships between Spain and the countries visited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon completing the voyage, the ship is scheduled to return to Spain in July 2025. The final port of call will be C\u00e1diz, the ship’s home port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
