President Luis Abinader announced that it is a priority of his government to build the skylift mass transit solution for Santo Domingo West. The system will connect residents from kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway to the neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, La Altagracia, El Caf\u00e9, Carretera S\u00e1nchez, and the Port of Haina, with an estimated completion date of early 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President made the announcement during a community meeting at the La Hora de Dios school in Buenos Aires, Herrera, where he addressed residents’ concerns about security, public services, infrastructure, and various other issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the cable car project, Abinader outlined several other initiatives for Santo Domingo West, including a new judicial complex, a traffic solution for Plaza de la Bandera, and continued work on the Guajim\u00eda canal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new cable car line, the third of its kind in the city, will have a capacity of 4,500 passengers per hour in each direction. The 20-minute ride is expected to benefit approximately 400,000 people and will include seven stations: Mar\u00eda Montes (kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway), Buenos Aires de Herrera, Pintura, Ensanche Altagracia, Caf\u00e9 de Herrera, Carretera S\u00e1nchez, and Haina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the Guajim\u00eda canal, the President stated that the National Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (CAASD) will continue its sanitation efforts. CAASD director Felipe Suberv\u00ed noted that the agency is currently tendering the remaining 2.2 kilometers of the project, following the completion of the first 3.2 kilometers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abinader also highlighted the government’s efforts to provide housing for low-income families, mentioning the recent delivery of 200 apartments in Engombe and the ongoing construction of 144 additional units in Hato Nuevo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government has also allocated 24,795 square meters for the construction of a new judicial complex in Santo Domingo West, which will house courts, the Public Ministry, and the Public Defender’s Office. The Ministry of Housing and Buildings (Mived) is overseeing the project, which is currently 35% complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Public Works is working on a 1.02-kilometer, two-lane road project to improve traffic flow around Plaza de la Bandera. Additionally, the Isabel Aguiar overpass will be expanded to include three sections with two lanes in each direction, further easing traffic congestion on 27 de Febrero Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Euri And\u00fajar, president of the National Association of Enterprises and Industries of Herrera (ANEIH), a major manufacturing center located in Santo Domingo West, hailed the construction of the new cable car system as a “catalyst” for comprehensive economic development in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a press release, And\u00fajar said the infrastructure project, which will connect the municipality to the National District, will improve connectivity, attract new investments, foster business expansion, and enhance overall economic productivity. He also highlighted the project’s positive environmental impact, as reported in Diario Libre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
