A report in The Egypt Daily News follows up with archaeological investigations carried out by Dominican diplomat and archeologist Kathleen Martinez in Egypt. As reported, the Egyptian-Dominican archaeological mission led by Martinez in collaboration with the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ure\u00f1a in Santo Domingo, has unveiled significant finds at the Taposiris Magna Temple, located west of Alexandria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martinez for years has participated with Egyptian archaeologists in a quest to find the tomb and remains of Queen Cleopatra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As reported in the Egypt Daily News, Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), highlighted some key discoveries, including a white marble statue of a woman adorned with a royal crown and a half-length statue of a king wearing the Nemes headdress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kathleen Martinez has suggested that the marble statue might represent Queen Cleopatra VII. However, some archaeologists disagree, noting that its facial features differ significantly from known depictions of Cleopatra, making it more plausible that the statue depicts a princess from the Ptolemaic dynasty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kathleen Mart\u00ednez, a Dominican archaeologist and researcher, graduated in Law from the Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a National University (UNPHU). Since 2005, she has gained international recognition for her work in the search for Cleopatra’s tomb at the Taposiris Magna temple in Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Mart\u00ednez provided UNPHU with photographs of recent discoveries, including a white marble bust of the Ptolemaic queen, part of coins bearing the image of Queen Cleopatra VII, a consecration or foundation deposit of the walls of the Taposiris Magna temple, and images of structures found underwater in the Mediterranean during the submarine expedition she led with Dr. Robert Ballard at Taposiris Magna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kathleen Teresa Mart\u00ednez Berry is a 58-year old Dominican lawyer, archaeologist, and diplomat, particularly known for her efforts since 2005 in the search for Cleopatra’s tomb at the Taposiris Magna temple in Egypt. She leads the Dominican-Egyptian mission in Alexandria and currently serves as Minister Counselor for Cultural Affairs at the Dominican Embassy in Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
